Robert Wheeler started drawing when he was in a highchair. Throughout elementary school, he was doing chalk murals on the classroom walls. At about eight, he started oil painting on canvas. His work was inspired by the beautiful work he saw in an Asian gift shop, in Miami, where he grew up. He admired the detail in their art. In high school his art teacher got him an afternoon job for an advertising agency. After graduating, the agency took him on as one of their full time artists. He majored in management in college that eventually led to a management position in the graphics arts industry.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Over the years, he continued with the oil painting and
expanded to other media: acrylic painting, leather tooling, woodworking, taxidermy, photography, polymer clay sculpting, glass etching, glass fusion and silk painting.
In the little spare time Robert has, he enjoys writing poetry and has started putting his words to music; even though he cannot read music he plays the organ.
He is writing a young people’s adventure book that starts out in Hong Kong. On one of his trips there he was privileged to see the pink dolphins of Hong Kong. This and other information about the Chinese culture inspired him to write the story.
Robert calls himself a "closet architect" because he does not have formal training in home design, yet he enjoys creating home designs or remodeling existing homes. He has the knowledge and ability to do all phases of home building.
Robert prefers to do custom work in any media for his clients.
***************** Art is an illusion of my mind, a fantasy of a dreamer, the reality of a life. To be enjoyed, destined, admired, ignored by the minds of others. It is not important to me how others see it or if they do. It matters to me that I created it and released the expression in my soul.
